The Grain Valley Colorguard is comprised of approximately 30 students in grades 9-12. Auditions for the ensemble take place in the spring. Students participate with the marching band in the fall. There is a strong emphasis on body, movement and performance during the season. After the marching season many of the members also learn an instrument and participate in the concert program as well as the championship Winterguard program. They consistently receive outstanding colorguard awards in both local and regional competitions.
The Grain Valley Winterguard is comprised of a middle school and high school ensemble of 30-50 students in grades 7-12. The Grain Valley Winter Guard is recognized as one of the fastest excelling organization in the region. In just seven years they have been promoted from a Regional B guard to a Scholastic A guard. Numerous regional and circuit championships have been earned throughout that process. The GVWG is a consistent WGI Regional Finalist.
Auditions for the ensembles take place in November after the marching band season. There is a strong emphasis on basic skills, movement and performance during the season. Winterguard is seen as way for the guard students to continue working on their skills throughout the year. Middle school students are encouraged to participate in the winterguard season to prepare themselves for the fall marching season.
