The Grain Valley Percussion Program was founded seven years ago with a total of 27 students in grades six through twelve. Over the last seven years, the program has grown to encompass 67 middle school and high school students that meet in fully homogenous percussion classes. The high school percussion students meet in two ensembles: Percussion Ensemble and Percussion Orchestra.
In 2015 the Percussion Ensemble was selected to perform at the Music For All Sandy Feldstein National Percussion Festival. In addition, the GVHS Percussion Ensemble has received five consecutive “Honor 1” Ratings at MSHSAA State Large Ensemble Festival. In 2014 the Grain Valley Wind Ensemble performed at the 76th Missouri Music Educators Association State Convention where, through the doubling of parts, all ten Wind Ensemble percussionists were featured on David R. Gillingham’s tremendous Concertino for Four Percussion and Wind Ensemble.
All percussionists also participate as members of the highly successful Grain Valley Marching Eagles Drumline earning numerous percussion caption awards at statewide and regional festivals. The percussion program holds an annual Night of Percussion Concert in the spring featuring both middle school and high school percussion ensembles.
